Busy But Not Productive

Busy But Not Productive

Here’s something that drives me nuts.

I believe that many people mistake being busy for being active.

However, did you know that you can be busy and not be doing anything of substance?

That’s a downfall for a lot of businesses.

When I advise clients to be active, they also need to be effective. The two go hand in hand.

A big mistake is thinking active is equal to effective.

Busy but not productive.

Success on LinkedIn is more than connections. It’s also more than liking and commenting on posts.

By the time we get involved, our client says something like this:

“I just don’t know what else to do. I’m pretty sure that there’s something else I should be doing, but I don’t know what it is. I sense an opportunity but have no way of taking advantage of it until I know what it is.”

Although he was ‘busy’, he wasn’t generating much business, which is the point of being active.

It’s all about balance.

It starts with building your community on LinkedIn.

Do you know WHO your perfect customer is? These are the people and only people you should be connecting with. If you don’t know, you need to spend some time figuring it out.

For “suspects” (simply names) to become “prospects”, you need to develop a strategy that includes connection, engagement, and activity.

Prospects once engaged are moved up the ladder to eventually become “clients”.

The people you surround yourself with on LinkedIn is your “opportunity”. Opportunity comes knocking when you become visible by actively engaging them on the platform.

Remember, people won’t engage with you unless you’re active!

You get your “prospects” attention through engagement. You’re either influencing your connections or somebody else is.

It comes down to this equation: more attention = more business.

Once you have someone’s attention, you need to determine interest. You do this by asking! You’ll never know unless you ask.

It doesn’t have to be a literary masterpiece. I’ve received lots of those. It also doesn’t need to be pushy or desperate. I get more of these than I care to admit.

What works is a simple DM that is short and to the point. The answer you’re looking for is a simple Yes or No.

Balance gets you to where you want to be – Active and Effective.
